Planning & practice
From apparel sampling to production
A practical guide to connecting product decisions, approvals and execution.
NWN field notes
A practical starting point.
Turn the direction into a defined garment.
Development brings the visual idea together with material, construction and measurement decisions. It can involve technical specifications, fabric and trim sourcing, pattern development and sample coordination. The intended wearer and fit should guide decisions. A product image gives direction; consistent reproduction also needs agreed specifications.
Review the complete product.
Assess material, fit, measurements, construction, trims and finishing against the agreed direction. Record specific corrections so the next revision has a clear purpose. Where several people review a garment, consolidate comments before sending them onward. Conflicting or late feedback can reopen decisions that appeared settled.
Keep approvals connected.
The approved sample, measurement chart, material selection, colour reference and artwork should describe the same product. Confirm which version of each is current. Connect sample approval to the final quantity, colour and size breakdown. If the product changes, review whether costing or timing also needs to change before production.
Align the programme.
Production planning connects confirmed specifications with material availability, partner coordination, quality expectations and delivery. NWN coordinates the relevant specialists and production partners around the programme. The production arrangement is assessed for the actual garment and requirement, with partner facilities coordinated within the agreed scope.
Carry the agreed standard through to shipment.
Quality checks, finishing, labelling, packing and documentation should refer back to the confirmed programme. Define what needs checking and how issues will be communicated. Include the dispatch destination and packing or documentation requirements in the brief. A connected process keeps product development and delivery part of the same engagement.
